Halal Wedding Catering in Markham — Feasts for the Big Day
Authentic halal Sri Lankan & Indian wedding catering delivered to Markham, roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount).
Food for a mehndi at home
Many Markham weddings begin with a mehndi or a pre-wedding night at the family home. It is a looser evening than the reception. People eat standing up, on the stairs, or seated on the floor while henna dries and the music plays. That changes what makes good food. Dishes that hold together on a paper plate and can be eaten with one hand free work best.
- Biryani from a tray: one scoop, no sauce to spill.
- Chilli chicken: boneless and crispy, $14.99 on our menu.
- Chicken devil: wok-tossed and bold, $12.99.
- Mango lassi: $6, cooling next to spicy food. It contains yogurt.
For a 40-guest mehndi, Chicken Biryani Combo 1 at roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount) is confirmed in your event quote. If the guest count is under 20, ask about catering trays: small feeds 5 to 8, medium 10 to 15, large 20 to 30, priced by quote.
Turning a home kitchen into a serving area
A house is not a hall, and the trays need somewhere to go. A few days before the mehndi, walk through the space:
- Clear the counter or a folding table near the kitchen for the buffet.
- Make fridge room for leftovers. Empty a shelf before guests arrive, not after.
- Buy or borrow chafing frames and fuel cans, and keep matches or a lighter with them.
- Stack plates, napkins and spoons at the start of the line and a bin at the end.
- Put a sign on the door for the driver if the house number is hard to see at night.
Why string hopper biryani for the reception
For the main reception, the String Hopper Biryani Combo is a dish most guests at a Markham wedding will not have seen elsewhere. String hoppers are fine steamed rice-flour noodles; in this dish they are tossed biryani-style. The combo at roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount) brings string-hopper biryani, chicken korma, eggplant mojo, pineapple curry, yogurt sambal and maasi sambal. It is a softer, lighter plate than rice biryani, and the korma keeps it mild enough for children.
One honest note: we make string hoppers only as part of this combo. We do not make plain string hoppers, hoppers or egg hoppers. Read more on our string hopper biryani page.
Markham numbers worked out
- 150-guest reception on String Hopper Biryani Combo: final pricing depends on your menu and headcount before tax and delivery.
- 300-guest reception on Chicken Biryani Combo 2: final pricing depends on your menu and headcount before tax and delivery, with chicken biryani, deep-fried chicken, pineapple curry, eggplant mojo, acharu, maasi sambal, green-pea cashew curry and custard dessert.
quotes each event based on menu and headcount with a 20-person minimum. If you want both rice biryani and string hopper biryani at one reception, ask us about mixing combos.
Pairing the two events
Because the mehndi and the reception are often only days apart, plan them as a pair. Keep the mehndi casual with chicken and biryani, then let the reception introduce string hopper biryani and korma. Guests eating at both will notice the change, and you avoid serving the same rice twice in one week. Leftovers from the mehndi should go into shallow containers and into the fridge within two hours, then be eaten by family rather than set out again.
Ten kilometres from our door
Markham is about 10 km from 328 Passmore Avenue, typically a 15-minute drive north across Steeles Avenue. Because the run is short, a Markham drop-off can be timed close to your serving hour, and small adjustments to a delivery slot are simpler to work out than for venues across the GTA. That makes Markham a good fit for the back-to-back home events that lead up to a wedding.
See our Markham catering page for non-wedding events, or call or text (647) 449-2924 to plan the mehndi and reception together.
