How Far in Advance Should You Book Halal Catering in Toronto?
How much notice does a halal caterer actually need? A clear booking timeline for office lunches, birthdays and weddings in the GTA, and what your options are if you have left it late.
The single most common question we get is some version of "is it too late to book?" The honest answer is that it depends entirely on the size of your order, and most people worry far earlier than they need to for small events and far too late for big ones.
The short version
For a small order, 20 to 30 guests, three to five days is usually enough. For 50 to 80 guests, give it a week to ten days. For anything over 100, or for a wedding, you want two to four weeks, and during peak season you want more.
Why bigger orders need more runway
It is not about the cooking. A kitchen can cook a lot of food in a day. It is about sourcing. A 150-person biryani order means securing that much meat and rice at the right quality, and that is a supplier conversation, not a kitchen one. Rush it and you either pay more or accept a substitution you did not want.
It is also about the calendar. Weekends are when everything happens, and a good kitchen only has so many Saturdays. If your date is a Saturday in wedding season, you are competing with everyone else in the city for the same slot.
The dates that fill up first
Ramadan and the weeks around Eid are the tightest windows in the year for halal catering in the GTA. Wedding season, roughly May through September, is the next. December is busy with corporate parties. If your event lands in any of those windows, double whatever timeline you had in mind.
What to do if you have left it late
Do not assume the answer is no. Call. A lot of kitchens can absorb a last-minute order if you are flexible on the menu, and flexibility is the currency here. If you say "whatever you can do well for 40 people," you will almost always get fed. If you arrive with a rigid twelve-item menu two days out, you will hear no.
Second, shrink the menu. One protein done properly beats three done in a panic. See our breakdown of corporate catering pricing and setup for how a tight menu still reads as generous.
Book the date before the menu
This is the tip nobody gives you. You can lock a date and a rough headcount, then finalise the menu later. Most caterers, us included, would rather hold your slot and sort the details after. Waiting until you have decided on every dish is how people lose the date entirely.
Booking with Blessed Kitchen
We are a family-run halal Sri Lankan and Indian kitchen in Scarborough. Catering starts at 20 dollars per person with a 20-guest minimum, and we cater across the GTA. For small orders a few days notice is usually fine. For large events, reach out early and we will hold the date. You can start on our catering page, or see what different event sizes cost on our halal catering cost guide.
Short version: for anything under 30 people, a few days. Over 100 or a wedding, a few weeks. And whenever you are reading this, it is worth one call to find out rather than assuming you are too late.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book halal catering in Toronto?
For 20 to 30 guests, three to five days is usually enough. For 50 to 80 guests, allow a week to ten days. For 100 or more guests, or a wedding, book two to four weeks ahead, and longer during Ramadan, Eid or wedding season.
Can I book halal catering last minute in the GTA?
Often yes, if you are flexible on the menu. A smaller, tighter menu is much easier for a kitchen to absorb at short notice than a large fixed one. Always call rather than assume it is too late.
What time of year is hardest to book halal catering?
Ramadan and the weeks around Eid are the tightest windows, followed by wedding season from May to September, then December for corporate parties.
