Halal Biryani Catering in Markham — 2026
Halal Biryani Catering for Markham events. Halal Sri Lankan menus, pricing, lead times, and delivery from our Scarborough kitchen.
When half the room has never had Sri Lankan biryani
Plenty of Markham gatherings bring together people who grew up on very different food. Some guests will know Hyderabadi or Karachi biryani well. Others may be colleagues, neighbours or in-laws who have never eaten any biryani at all. The Sri Lankan version sits a little apart from both groups, so a few minutes of explanation at the table goes a long way toward guests actually enjoying it rather than just politely eating it.
Our biryani is made in a Northern Sri Lankan style with freshly ground spices. The biggest difference people notice is not the rice itself but what comes beside it. Instead of a single raita, a Sri Lankan biryani plate is built from several small sides, each one doing a different job: sweet, sour, salty, crunchy or cooling.
What each side on the plate is for
- Eggplant mojo: caramelized eggplant in a sweet, sour and spicy marinade. It cuts through the richness of the rice.
- Pineapple curry: sweet pineapple pieces with gentle heat. Children and spice-shy adults usually go back for this one.
- Acharu: a traditional Sri Lankan pickle of fruits and vegetables in vinegar and spices. Tangy and crunchy, so a small spoonful is enough.
- Maasi sambol: dried Maldives fish (skipjack tuna) with fried onion, chili, curry leaves and lime. Salty, spicy and crisp.
- Yogurt sambal: the cooling side, closest to what raita fans expect.
- Egg masala: part of Chicken Biryani Combo 1, a simple and filling addition for anyone who wants extra protein.
A plating routine to show first-timers
- Start with a generous scoop of biryani in the centre of the plate.
- Add eggplant mojo and pineapple curry on opposite edges, so the sweet and sour stay separate until you mix them in.
- Sprinkle a little maasi sambol over the rice for crunch.
- Put a small amount of acharu at the rim. It is strong, and a little goes a long way.
- Finish with yogurt sambal if the heat builds up.
If you are the host, plate your own first near the line. Guests copy what they see.
Little cards that save a lot of questions
With a mixed crowd, label the trays. A folded card in front of each dish takes ten minutes to prepare and stops the same five questions coming at you all evening. Based on the menu descriptions, these are the ones worth flagging:
- Maasi sambol contains dried fish, which matters for anyone with a fish allergy or anyone who avoids seafood.
- Egg masala contains eggs.
- Green-pea cashew curry, which comes with Chicken Biryani Combo 2 and the Beef Biryani Combo, contains cashews.
- Yogurt sambal contains dairy.
For anything not covered here, ask us before the day so you can label it properly. The Vegetable Biryani Combo has no meat and no maasi sambol, which makes it the simple choice for vegetarian guests. More on that in our vegetable biryani notes.
Costing a 35-person house party
quotes each event based on menu and headcount with a 20-person minimum. For 35 guests on Chicken Biryani Combo 2 at quoted for your event, the food comes to final pricing depends on your menu and headcount before tax and delivery. That combo brings chicken biryani, deep-fried chicken, pineapple curry, eggplant mojo, acharu, maasi sambol, green-pea cashew curry and custard dessert, so you do not need to plan a separate dessert. If some guests are vegetarian, ask us about mixing combos when you call.
Prefer something lighter for a weekday get-together? Chicken Biryani Combo 1 at quoted for your event keeps it to biryani, eggplant mojo, egg masala and acharu. At 35 guests that is $700.
Ten kilometres from the pot
Markham is one of the shortest runs we make: about 10 km and roughly 15 minutes from 328 Passmore Avenue. That short hop helps most with home parties, where you may not have a lot of oven space. Our catering is drop-off or pickup only, with no staff on site, so have a cleared table, serving spoons and chafing dishes ready before the trays come through the door. The rest of the Markham details are on our Markham catering page.
Things Markham hosts ask about our biryani
Is this the same as the biryani I know from Indian restaurants?
It is related but not the same, especially in the spice blend and the sides. We wrote a longer comparison in Sri Lankan biryani vs Indian biryani.
Can I get lamb biryani?
We make it, but it is not on the online menu. Call or text (647) 449-2924 to ask.
Is the meat halal?
Our chicken, beef and lamb are HMA-certified halal, and we can share the documentation on request.
What if I only have 12 people?
Combos need 20, but trays come in small (feeds 5 to 8), medium (10 to 15) and large (20 to 30) sizes. Ask for a quote. You can also order individual Biriyani plates at $12 through our direct ordering page or Uber Eats.
