Vegetable Biryani in Scarborough

Fragrant, made-to-order halal vegetable biryani in Scarborough. Delivery, pickup, or catering.

Vegetable biryani at Blessed Kitchen Scarborough

Vegetable biryani is proof that you do not need meat to make a biryani people fight over. Ours is basmati layered with vegetables and the same spice base we use for the rest of our biryanis, baked so the rice carries the flavour all the way through.

It is a real dish in its own right, not an afterthought. Good for anyone eating vegetarian, and for mixed groups where not everyone eats meat.

Made to order, always halal

Cooked fresh to order in a one hundred percent halal kitchen, with hand-ground spice.

Vegetarian guests, covered

Our Biriyani comes in a vegetable version for $12, and the Vegetable Biryani Combo is $15 per person for 20 or more, with eggplant moju, pineapple curry, acharu and yogurt sambal. It is the cheapest combo on our menu and the simplest way to cover vegetarian guests at a mixed event: order a share of your headcount as vegetable combos.

Other vegetarian dishes: potato milk curry, green peas curry, mango curry and eggplant moju (on request), Sri Lankan Noodles ($15).

Allergy notes

Some of our dishes contain egg (kottu, egg masala, watalappan), dairy (yogurt sambal), fish (maasi sambal is made with dried Maldives fish) and nuts (green pea cashew curry). If anyone has an allergy, tell us when you order and we will tell you what to avoid.

Vegetarian, vegan, or simply no meat?

Guests skip meat for different reasons, and it helps to know which you are catering for. Our vegetable biryani has no meat in it, but it is cooked in the same kitchen as our chicken, beef and mutton dishes. If a guest keeps strict separation, call us before ordering and we will talk it through honestly. For vegan guests, the yogurt sambal in the Vegetable Biryani Combo contains dairy. Our Green Peas Curry is naturally vegan, cooked in coconut milk with curry leaves, pandan and cinnamon, and can be ordered on request. More meat-free ideas are on our vegetarian Sri Lankan dishes page.

The $8 base for big community meals

For temple events, school fundraisers or large volunteer meals, there is a simpler option: Biryani Rice + Vegs at $8 per person, which is biryani rice with any vegetable dish, for 20 people or more. At 200 people that is 200 x $8 = $1,600 before tax and delivery.

Splitting a mixed guest list

For a 100-guest event where 30 people do not eat meat:

  • 70 on Chicken Biryani Combo 2: 70 x $25 = $1,750
  • 30 on the Vegetable Biryani Combo: 30 x $15 = $450
  • Total: $2,200 before tax and delivery.

If some guests do not eat beef, choosing chicken and vegetable combos for the whole event means nobody has to ask what is in each tray. Label the vegetable trays clearly and put them first in the buffet line, so vegetarian guests are not left with the scrapings after everyone else has helped themselves.
