Orientation week for a new Brampton cohort

When a Brampton employer brings in a group of new hires, the first week often includes catered lunches. It keeps people on site, gives them time to meet each other, and sets the tone for the job. A three-day program needs three different meals, or by day three nobody is looking forward to lunch. Here is how we would plan it for a cohort of 40.

Day one: a familiar biryani

Chicken Biryani Combo 1 at roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount): chicken biryani, eggplant mojo, egg masala and acharu. final pricing depends on your menu and headcount.

Day two: a flexible plate

Ghee Rice Combo 5 at roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount): ghee rice with any meat and any two vegetable dishes. Pick chicken for a crowd you don't know yet. final pricing depends on your menu and headcount.

Day three: the send-off lunch

Mutton Biryani Combo at roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount): mutton biryani, chicken chukka, eggplant mojo, maasi sambal, pineapple curry, yogurt sambal, acharu and ktull wattalapam. final pricing depends on your menu and headcount.

The three-day total is confirmed in your event quote. quotes each event based on menu and headcount with a 20-person minimum, which a cohort of 40 clears comfortably.

Combos, trays or boxes: choosing a format

  • Per-person combos work when the group eats together at one time and you want a full plate with sides.
  • Trays suit a smaller or irregular group: small feeds 5 to 8, medium 10 to 15, large 20 to 30. Quoted on request.
  • Individual boxed lunches fit staggered breaks, training spread across rooms, or anyone eating at a workstation. No published price, so ask for a quote.

When breaks don't line up

If one line breaks at 11:30 and another at 1:00, a buffet sits open far too long. Boxes solve that, because each person takes one when their break comes. Two habits keep it safe: anything not eaten within two hours goes into the fridge, and a microwave in the lunchroom lets late-break staff reheat properly instead of eating it lukewarm. Write the contents on each box lid, especially for vegetarian boxes.

Fifty kilometres from Passmore Avenue

Brampton is in Peel Region, about 50 km from our kitchen, typically 45 to 55 minutes via the 401 and then the 410 or the 407. Over that distance, last-minute changes are harder to absorb, so confirm your final count early and treat it as fixed. Give us the dock or reception entrance and a contact who will actually answer their phone. In winter, add time for weather.

The file HR usually wants

For workplaces with many Muslim employees, HR often asks for proof before approving a caterer. Our chicken, beef and lamb are HMA-certified halal, and we provide documentation on request. It also helps to keep an ingredients note with the order. From our menu: egg masala has eggs, yogurt sambal is dairy, maasi sambal includes dried fish, and the green-pea cashew curry has cashews.

Who does what on the day

We drop off packed food and leave; there are no on-site servers. For an orientation week, give the job to the trainer's assistant or a team lead: receive the delivery, lay out the trays, keep the line moving, and box leftovers for people to take home.

A one-page food card for new hires

A new cohort is often a mix of backgrounds, and many people will be meeting Sri Lankan food for the first time. A short card on the table makes lunch an easy conversation starter rather than a guessing game:

  • Biryani: spiced rice cooked with meat or vegetables; ours is a northern Sri Lankan style.
  • Eggplant mojo: fried eggplant in a sweet, sour and spicy marinade.
  • Acharu: a Sri Lankan pickle of fruit and vegetables, tangy and a little hot. Use a small spoonful.
  • Chicken chukka: a dry-style chicken dish rather than a saucy curry.
  • Ktull wattalapam: a Sri Lankan dessert in the coconut custard family.

Print it once and reuse it for every cohort.

If the cohort includes people who are fasting

Orientation weeks sometimes fall in Ramadan. Ask new hires privately and early whether they will be fasting, then order sealed portions they can take home for iftar instead of leaving them out of the shared lunch. Keep those portions refrigerated until the end of the shift, and label them with each person's name so they are not eaten by mistake.

Brampton employers often ask

Are you on SkipTheDishes?

No. For individual orders we use our direct ordering page and Uber Eats. Catering for a group is quoted by phone or text.

Can we add a dessert to the day-one combo?

Vattalappam, our coconut custard made with kithul jaggery, is $15 on the menu. Ask how many you need for 40.
