Why Milton catering starts at a bigger headcount

Milton is in Halton Region, about 70 km from our kitchen on Passmore Avenue. The usual drive west along the 401 takes 60 to 70 minutes, and more when traffic backs up across the top of the city. Because one Milton delivery takes up a large part of the day, we accept Milton catering for larger events that are booked early: weddings, community gatherings, company events and similar occasions.

A small family order is usually not realistic to drive out to Milton. For those, collecting from our Scarborough kitchen on a Saturday or Sunday is the honest option, and we would rather say so up front.

Budgeting 150 guests with a vegetarian share

Say a community association in Milton is hosting 150 people and about one in five eats vegetarian. One way to price it:

The Chicken Biryani Combo 1 brings chicken biryani, eggplant mojo, egg masala and acharu. The vegetable combo carries vegetable biryani, eggplant mojo, pineapple curry, acharu and yogurt sambal. The egg masala contains egg and the yogurt sambal contains dairy, which matters if any of your vegetarian guests are vegan. quotes each event based on menu and headcount with a 20-person minimum, so ask us about mixing combos and we will confirm how a split works for your order.

If you would rather serve everyone the same menu, 150 guests on the Chicken Biryani Combo 2 at quoted for your event comes to $3,750. That adds deep-fried chicken, pineapple curry, maasi sambal, green-pea cashew curry and a custard dessert.

Questions to settle with your Milton venue first

1. Does the hall allow outside catering, and does it ask the caterer for any paperwork?
2. Where can a delivery vehicle stop, and is there a side door or loading area closer than the main entrance?
3. How early can your team get into the room? Tables need to be set before the food arrives.
4. Are chafing dishes and fuel supplied, or do you need to bring or rent them?
5. Is there a fridge for desserts and, later on, leftovers?
6. What time must the room be cleared, so you can plan packing up?

Event-day timeline, counted back from the meal

Fix the time you want guests eating, then work backwards. Roughly 45 minutes before that, the food should be at the door. In the hour before the drop-off, your team sets the tables, lights the chafing dishes and lays out serving tools. Keep a phone on you in case the driver calls from the highway.

When the trays arrive, check them against your order, label each one, and keep lids on until the line forms. We do not provide servers or on-site staff, so name two or three volunteers to serve and refill. When the meal is over, refrigerate leftovers within two hours and send guests home with containers if the hall allows it.

Smaller Milton groups and special requests

If your group is below the size that makes a Milton delivery sensible, weekend pickup in Scarborough still works. Our catering trays come in three sizes: small feeds 5 to 8, medium 10 to 15 and large 20 to 30. There is no published tray price, so ask for a quote.
