String Hoppers (Idiyappam) in Scarborough

Authentic halal string hoppers in Scarborough — idiyappam with dhal, curry and sambol.

String hoppers, or idiyappam, are nests of steamed rice-flour noodles pressed fresh and steamed in small rounds. They are light, a little chewy, and made to soak up curry. In Scarborough this is one of the dishes Sri Lankan families ask for most, and it is a staple on our weekend table.

How string hoppers are eaten

You pull a nest apart and eat it with something saucy: kiri hodi (a mild coconut gravy), dhal, a fish or chicken curry, and a spoon of coconut sambol on the side. It is a common breakfast at home, but it works for any meal.

Made fresh on weekends

We press and steam our string hoppers fresh. Because they are best the day they are made, they are a Saturday and Sunday item. All zabihah halal.

How to get it

String hoppers come with your choice of curry and sambol. We are a weekend kitchen, so pickup is from our Scarborough location on Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 5. If you are inside our Uber Eats delivery range, we can also drop it at your door.
