Staff appreciation at a Vaughan industrial site
A lot of Vaughan employment sits in warehouses, distribution centres and production plants along the highway corridors. When a site manager wants to thank the floor, the meal often happens outdoors or in a loading bay, in summer, with people coming off the line in waves. That is a very different job from a boardroom lunch, and this post plans for it.
From Passmore Avenue to your gate
Vaughan is roughly 35 km from our kitchen, about 35 to 40 minutes by road, usually across the 407 or along the 401 depending on where in York Region the site is. Industrial sites add a step most offices don't have: a gate, a guard house, or a dock with its own schedule. Send us:
- the exact gate or door number, not only the street address;
- whether the driver needs to sign in or follow any site rules;
- the cell number of a supervisor who will be at the gate at drop-off time.
Book earlier than you would for an order close to our kitchen. The longer drive and a fixed arrival time mean the details need to be settled before the week of the event.
Budget for 120 staff, including a vegetarian group
- 100 staff on Chicken Biryani Combo 2 at quoted for your event: $2,500
- 20 staff on the Vegetable Biryani Combo at quoted for your event: $300
- is confirmed in your event quote
The deep-fried chicken in Combo 2 is easy to eat standing, which helps in a break area with limited seating. For a crew that has been lifting all morning, the Beef Biryani Combo at quoted for your event is heartier, with beef biryani and whole chicken deep-fried; at 100 people that line becomes $2,700. quotes each event based on menu and headcount with a 20-person minimum.
Feeding the floor in rounds
When first break is at 11:30 and second is at 1:00, don't open everything at once. Split the order on your side:
- Open half the trays for the first round and keep the rest sealed.
- Hold the open food hot in chafing dishes with lit fuel.
- Bring out the sealed half for round two, so the second crew gets the same meal as the first.
- Clear and refrigerate leftovers within two hours of them going out.
Our catering is drop-off only, with no servers on site, so name one supervisor per round to run the table and watch the clock.
Sun, heat and a buffet table
An outdoor event in July needs shade over the food, not only over the seating. Put the buffet under a tent or just inside the bay door. Keep yogurt sambal and anything dairy-based in a cooler until it goes out. Set up hand sanitizer or a wash station near the start of the line, since people will be coming straight off the floor.
Friday events and Jumu'ah
If the appreciation day lands on a Friday and some staff attend Jumu'ah, check the prayer time at the nearest mosque and schedule the meal around it, either before they leave or after they return. It is a small courtesy that people notice.
What health and safety may ask for
Our chicken, beef and lamb are HMA-certified halal, and documentation is available on request if HR or your safety committee wants a copy on file. On allergens, Combo 2's green-pea cashew curry contains cashews and its maasi sambal is made with dried fish. Post a sign at the table so nobody has to guess.
Counting a crew properly
Headcount at an industrial site is slippery. Office staff are easy to list; agency workers, contractors and drivers who happen to be on site that day are not. Ask each shift lead for a number that includes temporary staff, then add the office and management. Decide in advance whether delivery drivers and visiting contractors are invited, because they will notice the food. For drinks, plan on water and something cold for everyone. Mango lassi is on our menu at $6 if you want something special for a smaller group, but for a crew of 120 most sites simply stock cases of water and pop in a cooler near the line.
Vaughan site managers ask
Can you set up a cooking station on site?
No. We don't run on-site cooking or send staff. Food arrives packed and ready to serve, and your team handles the table.
How much does one tray feed?
Trays come in three sizes: small feeds 5 to 8, medium 10 to 15, large 20 to 30. There is no published tray price, so ask for a quote.
Can we get a quote for 300 across two shifts?
Yes. We cater from small groups up to 1,000 guests and more. Give us both break times and the split between shifts.
