Halal Biryani Catering in Pickering — 2026
Halal Biryani Catering for Pickering events. Halal Sri Lankan menus, pricing, lead times, and delivery from our Scarborough kitchen.
Collecting the biryani yourself
Pickering sits about 20 km east of our kitchen, roughly 20 to 25 minutes of driving between Durham Region and north Scarborough. That is close enough that a lot of hosts ask whether they should simply come and pick up the order. For small and mid-sized gatherings, it often makes sense. Pickup from our kitchen is on Saturday and Sunday, at 328 Passmore Avenue, Unit 59.
This post walks through doing a biryani pickup properly, with a family lunch for 24 people as the example: an aqiqah, a child's birthday, or relatives over after a weekend function.
Get the car ready before you leave home
A full biryani order is heavier and bulkier than most people expect. Prepare the vehicle first:
- Use the trunk or the floor behind the front seats. Seats slope, and trays slide on them.
- Lay down an old towel or a flattened cardboard box. It absorbs any spill and stops trays from shifting.
- Bring a laundry basket or a sturdy box so trays sit snugly side by side.
- Clear the trunk of strollers, sports bags and groceries. You want a flat, empty surface.
- Bring a second person if you can, so one carries while the other holds doors.
In summer, run the air conditioning on the way over so the car is not an oven when the trays go in. In winter, there is no need to heat the trunk, just keep the drive short and direct.
At the kitchen, keep heavy trays at the bottom and lighter side dishes on top, never the other way around. Then drive straight home. A stop for ice or balloons on the way back is where hot food cools down.
Feeding kids and grandparents at the same table
Family lunches in Pickering often stretch from toddlers to great-grandparents. Biryani handles that range well if you set out the sides thoughtfully.
- For children: plain spoonfuls of chicken biryani with egg masala on the side are usually enough. Pineapple curry is a good sweet option to offer alongside. Keep maasi sambol away from small plates, since it is the fiery one.
- For older guests: some prefer milder food. Point them to the rice, the egg masala and a little eggplant mojo.
- For the spice lovers: put maasi sambol and acharu in their own small bowls at the end of the table so people add as much as they like.
Egg masala contains eggs, and maasi sambol is made with dried Maldives fish, so mention both to anyone with allergies.
The 24-person example
Chicken Biryani Combo 1 is roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount): chicken biryani, eggplant mojo, egg masala and acharu. For 24 guests, final pricing depends on your menu and headcount before tax. quotes each event based on menu and headcount with a 20-person minimum, so 24 clears it comfortably.
If you are expecting a group of teenage cousins who eat like adults twice over, Biryani Rice + Vegs at roughly $20 to $30 per person (quoted on menu and headcount) (biryani rice with any vegetable, also a 20-person minimum) can stretch the table. Twenty portions adds $160. You can read more about the main dish on our chicken biryani page.
When delivery is the better call
Pickup is not always the right move. Choose delivery instead when:
- The event is at a hall rather than at home, and you need to be there early to set up.
- The order is big enough that it will not fit flat in one car.
- You are the host, and nobody else can make the 40 to 50 minute round trip on the day.
- The weather is bad and you would rather not carry hot trays across an icy lot.

Back at the house
Whichever way the food reaches you, it comes packed and ready to serve. Our catering does not include servers or on-site staff, so you set it out. Have serving spoons, a ladle for the curries and enough plates on the table before you leave to collect. Line up the trays in the order people will serve themselves: rice first, then egg masala, then eggplant mojo, then acharu at the end. If lunch will not start right away, keep the trays covered in a warm oven or in chafing dishes, and refrigerate leftovers within two hours of serving.
