Seafood Devil Catering in Scarborough

Lobster, tiger shrimp and fish devil, crab curry and calamari, cooked to order for groups of 10 or more.

A devil curry is the Sri Lankan way of cooking something hot and fast: onions, peppers and chilli tossed with the main ingredient in a thick, sticky sauce that clings instead of pooling. Most people know it with chicken or beef. With seafood it becomes the dish people talk about after the party.

These are special-order dishes at Blessed Kitchen. We cook them for catering, for groups of 10 or more, and price them on request because seafood prices move week to week.

What we make

  • Thai lobster devil. The centrepiece. If you want one dish on the table that people photograph, this is it.
  • Tiger shrimp devil. Jumbo tiger shrimp in the devil sauce. Easier to serve than lobster and the most popular seafood choice for events.
  • Fish devil. Firm fish pieces in the same sauce. A good middle ground on price.
  • Crab curry. Not a devil dish, a proper Sri Lankan crab curry with a rich gravy. See our crab curry page for more.
  • Deep-fried calamari. Crispy rings that work as a starter while people arrive.
  • Seafood mixed. A combination for when you cannot pick one.

How to build a seafood spread

Seafood works best as one or two standout dishes on a wider table, not the whole menu. A typical order for 30 people looks like one seafood devil, one chicken or mutton dish, a rice base and a couple of vegetable curries. Our ghee rice combos are built for exactly that, and the full devil menu covers chicken, beef, mutton and quail if you want a land and sea mix.

Plan on the calamari going first. Put it out early and keep the curries for when everyone sits down.

Heat level

Devil dishes are meant to be spicy. If your group includes kids or people who do not handle heat, tell us when you order and we will balance the table with milder dishes. We usually suggest keeping one hot dish and adding a mild one next to it rather than toning the seafood down.

How to order

Call (647) 449-2924 with your date, headcount and which dishes you want, and we will give you a price. Give us at least a few days of notice for seafood, more for large events, so we can buy it fresh. Everything is halal and cooked in our Scarborough kitchen. For the rest of what we cater, see our catering menu.

Choosing a seafood devil for your event

Our seafood devils are made for groups of 10 or more and priced on request: tiger shrimp devil, fish devil, Thai lobster devil and mixed seafood. Tiger shrimp devil is the crowd favourite; Thai lobster devil is the showpiece for weddings and milestone birthdays. Each is wok-tossed in our devil paste with onion and capsicum, so it is sweet, sour and hot at once.

Pairing

Seafood devils sit best next to a mild rice. Pair them with a ghee rice combo or a vegetable biryani so the heat has somewhere to land. Chilli Shrimp ($18.99) is our single-portion seafood option for smaller orders.

Allergy notes

Some of our dishes contain egg (kottu, egg masala, watalappan), dairy (yogurt sambal), fish (maasi sambal is made with dried Maldives fish) and nuts (green pea cashew curry). If anyone has an allergy, tell us when you order and we will tell you what to avoid.
