Savour the Tradition: Authentic Sri Lankan Hoppers in Scarborough & Markham
Discover the delightful world of Sri Lankan hoppers right here in Scarborough and Markham. Blessed Kitchen brings you the true taste of Sri Lanka with our freshly made, Halal-certified hoppers, crafted with love and tradition.
Hoppers, or appa, are one of the most recognisable Sri Lankan foods: a bowl-shaped pancake with a soft centre and a thin, lacy, crisp edge. The batter is fermented rice flour and coconut milk, which gives hoppers their faint tang and airy texture. They come plain, with an egg cooked in (egg hoppers), or sweet with coconut milk (milk hoppers).
The types we make
- Plain hopper. Soft in the middle, crisp at the rim. Eat it with sambol or curry.
- Egg hopper. An egg set into the centre while it cooks.
- Milk hopper. Sweeter, made with extra coconut milk, often eaten on its own.
String hoppers are a different dish: steamed rice-noodle nests, eaten with curry and kiri hodi.
